Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao was a renowned Indian film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor who was born on May 4, 1947, in Palakollu, Andhra Pradesh (now in Telangana), India. He made significant contributions to the Telugu film industry and was known for his socially relevant and message-oriented films.
Rao started his career as a dialogue writer for the Telugu film "NTR: Kathanayakudu" in 1969. He then went on to direct his first film, "Tata Manavadu," in 1972, which was a commercial success. He went on to direct over 150 films in Telugu and won numerous awards for his work, including the prestigious National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu for "Meghasandesam."
Apart from directing and producing films, Rao was also involved in politics and served as a Member of Parliament from the Andhra Pradesh constituency. He was also a member of the Central Board of Film Certification.
Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao passed away on May 30, 2017, due to cardiac arrest at the age of 75.
